Clothing, Counting and Puppets

We've had a busy week this week! The children have been working hard on creating puppets, putting on shows, discussing the weather, talking about clothing, and counting. We've also been working hard preparing numbers for our Holiday Concert. We hope you'll be joining us!
Please continue to remind your child to listen, keep their hands and feet to themselves, and treat others how they would want to be treated! We've been having quite a few incidents and issues with these this week.

Water Bottles

Please, please send a water bottle with your child each day. We do not have a fountain in the class - the closest one is way at the end of the hall - and many students are complaining that they are thirsty every day.
Thanks!

THE COLD WEATHER HAS ARRIVED!

It is very obvious that the temperature has dropped significantly in the last week.  Many kids are coming to school with the proper attire and some are not.  Unless the temperature is significantly below zero and we are directed to keep the children inside, they will not be allowed to stay inside just because they find it too cold. We like to go outside for at least half an hour every morning as well as half an hour at lunch.

Let’s make sure we are all warm as we confront these cold winter months.

Here is a list of the important pieces of clothing that should be worn during these cold winter months:
ü      a warm, heavy coat
ü      waterproof and weatherproof boots (boots that can stand up to the -20 degree temperature)
ü      warm, waterproof gloves
ü      snow pants
ü      hat
ü      scarf
ü      balaclava (face masks)
ü      layered sweaters

In your child’s bag, it would be beneficial for your son/daughter to have the following:
ü      an extra pair of warm socks
ü      an extra pair of warm gloves

Earlier this week the snow was WET. As a result, many children spent the day wearing wet socks.  In turn, their indoor shoes got wet, not to mention STINKY! Yuk.  We do have heaters in our room which will be used to dry wet hats and gloves but there is only so much the heaters can do.

If obtaining these items for the winter months is not possible for some, please email me to let me know.  We have a number of bins with the items above that can be distributed to those who need them.
Let’s do the best we can to keep warm and healthy over the winter

Thanks for your help!

Eggs-citement!

We've had so much fun this week welcoming our new friends. The chicks finally decided to poke out early this morning after almost a whole week of watching them wiggle and hearing them chirp!
Other fun activities we did this week include: making playdough, showing numbers, building a home for the chicks, doing puzzles, finger painting poppies, making chicks, visiting the book fair, and participating in the Remembrance Day assembly.
Here's a look :)

Interviews, Clothing Swap and Book Fair

We're looking forward to meeting with all of you to discuss your child's progress! Thank you all for taking time out of your busy schedules to come see us.
While you are here, please take advantage of visiting the Scholastic Book Fair! (which is taking place in the library) There are lots of great books for sale and the money spent goes towards adding to our school library.
Also, on Thursday evening and Friday morning, Ms Purvis is running a Clothing Swap. Here are some details:
Our Me to We Club has been discussing what we can do in our community to ease the transition into the cooler weather.  We’re very excited to host our first Swap Meet.  Families are welcome to bring in winter coats, snow pants, winter boots and sports equipment that their children have outgrown.  You will receive a ticket for each item you donate and you can use that ticket to pick up any other item that has been donated to the swap.
Please remember that all donations must be in good condition.  You can drop off your items to Ms. Karsh’s office anytime from Monday, November 10th- Thursday, November 13th.  When you drop off your item, you’ll receive your ticket.  We’ll set up the swap in the gym during parent-teacher interviews on Thursday, November 13th from 3:30-7:00 and Friday, November 14th from 8:30-11:30.  Drop by and you can cash in your ticket for a brand new (to you) pair of skates or a great winter coat.  Any items left over after the swap will be donated to a local community agency.  If you have any questions or are interested in volunteering at the swap, please contact Rebecca Purvis at Rebecca.purvis@tdsb.on.ca.

Thanks for your support and see you at the swap!

Book Bags and Warm Clothes

Today is library day! (we missed it last week due to the trip to the farm) The school has given us fancy new book bags that your child will be bringing home (if they have already returned their book). This is to replace the plastic bags we have been using. Please treat it the same as you have been with the other bags - read the book with your child and send it back in the bag when you are done and each week they can take a new one. Library is on Thursday this week and next week but will change to Friday the following week (due to the PA day).

On another note, we have been noticing that a lot of children are unprepared for the chilly weather of our outdoor morning playtime. Please make sure your child has a proper coat, hat, and mittens so they don't get cold during outside time.
Thanks!
