More Geometry, Feelings, and Snow!

We've been very busy the past little while in K3! We've been working hard on counting, learning new words, retelling stories, and having fun!

Thanks to everyone who sent in a shape for our 3-D museum! It looks great!

This week, we've been learning how to retell a story by talking about what happens at the beginning, in the middle, and at the end. We focused on a story called Sans Toi! by Genevieve Cote. The children really liked it so we decided to draw pictures and talk about what happens in each section of the book. If you can, try and discuss the beginning, middle, and end of each book you read with your child! This is a great skill to practise! (On a side note - sorry there were no library books this week! - the library was closed during our library period due to grad photos. We will return to normal book exchange next week)

In science, we've been watching how snow melts when we bring it inside! We've built (small) snowmen and brought them into the classroom to watch how long it takes until they become a puddle - they are loving it!

In math, we've been continuing to talk about geometry - more specifically, location and movement and where things are in relation to other things. We're also still working on 3-D figures so keep reviewing these at home :)

We have also begun to talk about our feelings. We're really encouraging the children to use the French words they know as often as possible (if you could do the same that would be a big help!) and so we are learning to express how we are feeling each day. Many of the children are really getting the hang of it!

Finally, there have been a number of issues lately (especially with children who take the bus) with toys being brought to school and getting lost/taken/fought over. Please, please DO NOT LET YOUR CHILD BRING TOYS TO SCHOOL! It's very hard for us to deal with issues that do not happen under our watch. Also, if your child takes the bus, please remind him or her to make good choices, sit nicely, and listen to the bus driver!

Here is some of the vocabulary we've been working on over the past few weeks:

3-D Museum

As you know, over the past number of weeks we have been exploring 2-D shapes. The children have been having a great time making shape art, sorting shapes, and finding shapes in the classroom.

Now, we are moving onto 3-D figures. As such, we are asking that your child bring in an item that is the shape of a cylinder (ex: a can), a cone (ex: a party hat), a sphere (ex: a ball), a pyramid (ex: a tea bag), a cube (ex: a dice), or a prism (ex; a box). Ask your child to help you find one of these shapes and BE CREATIVE! We will be putting together a 3-D museum to put all of the items on display.

Also, don't forget! Friday is our 100th day of school! We are looking forward to seeing all of the collections the kids have put together :)

Thanks!

Fun at the Aquarium!

We had lots of fun learning about sharks and exploring underwater life! Thank you so much to our wonderful parent volunteers - we had a lot of fun and couldn't have gone without you.
Here's a look at some of our fun :)
